DO NOT go to this practice. I came to this doctor because it’s close to my home but whenever I switched back to here, this office always always causes lots of billing issue! I came here for annual physical check and the doctor asked me family history (I already put into the record when filling the form) and we discussed some basic questions about lifestyle. Then I received the bill from the insurance company that I have a deductible to pay because this was an “office visit”. I called the office, front desk said it’s an annual physical check, but when I asked office manager why did the insurance company received a code 99123 which is office visit, she said: “the doctor has the right to put down both annual physical code and office visit code during one visit. I have been handling so many patients complaining about the double charges but she will not change the codes because she has the right to do so. It is your decision to decide if you want to discuss or answer questions with doctor.” What? I got it, so I am not supposed to ask or answer (family history? The nurse asked that! Blood pressure in lower side. Go to bed late (but I don’t have sleeping problem). Mild eczema) any questions during annual physical check otherwise I will receive extra bill. After this visit, I didn’t even go to the blood work because I didn’t know if there will be some extra hidden charges, ridiculous.

Bio

Dr. Maryam Syed practices family medicine at Hartford HealthCare Medical Group’s new primary care practice in Westport. She sees patients beginning in adolescence through adulthood, and is also trained in pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology.

Dr. Syed chose a career in family medicine because she always liked the aspect of taking care of everyone, from young children to parents and grandparents. Her approach to care focuses on preventive care and educating patients on the importance of regular screenings (such as pap smears, mammograms and colonoscopies). She works closely with her patients to understand more than just the medical aspects of their lives.

Dr. Syed received her medical degree from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, NY and completed her family medicine residency at UHS Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City, NY.

She is board certified in family medicine and is a member of the American Osteopathic Association. Fluent in English, Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi, she has clinical interests in the areas of diabetes management, hypertension, asthma, thyroid disorders, women’s health, hypercholesterolemia and COPD.
