From my personal treatment experience, I know that Dr. Gerard Fumo is absolutely top tier in the Practice of Hematology Oncology. Considering his wealth of knowledge along with the care and compassion he delivers to his patients, truly every day I appreciate and know without a doubt that I am receiving the best possible care for my diagnosis. He absolutely includes me in all aspects of care and treatment. I am naturally curious about details in my ongoing care and treatment including all of the hows, whats, and whys of the status of my body's health. Dr. Fumo is wonderfully patient with my questions and concerns. He always takes the time for explanations. My doctor did a wonderful job explaining test results tome. He personally pulled up past radiology pictures & the current scan & carefully compared the 2 views, side by side, explaining what he was seeing & checking for. The results ruled out my greatest fears & the doctor reassured me that the further testing already scheduled would not be necessary. His cheerful greeting is comforting & his explaining details is thorough, serious yet calming. He listened to & addressed all my questions. A top notch doctor, Highest marks.

I saw Dr Fumo today. First time in about 9-10 years. Not only did he remember me, he remembered my prior case which is still in remission. Dr Fumo has the most integrity and compassion of any doctor I have met in the past 50+ years. I had a primary care doc like this in the early 90's it's a shame he went into research.

I have had a great relationship with my oncologist, Dr. Gerard Fumo, and also with all of the nurses and staff at the Cancer Institute at Midstate Medical Center -- and the results of my treatment are very good indeed. My appointments are always prompt, the treatments well-explained and delivered, and I could not be more satisfied.

Bio

Gerard Fumo, DO, MS, is a medical oncologist/hematologist working at the Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute at MidState Medical Center since 2012. He earned a master of science degree in molecular biology from the State University of New York at Albany and his medical degree from New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Connecticut Health Center, a fellowship in medical oncology at the National Cancer Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and a fellowship in hematology at the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, also part of the NIH.

He participated in drug development research at the NIH.

He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
